Following the temporary restrictions we put in place during the recent period of extreme heat and heightened wildfire risk, I can now confirm that the restriction on fires across North Lincolnshire Scouts can now be lifted.
Please can GLVs share this update with volunteers across your Group so that everyone is aware.
While the additional restriction has been removed, this doesn’t change our normal expectations around safely planning and managing activities involving fires.
If your Group or sections are planning campfires, cooking fires or other fire-lighting activities, please make sure that fire is properly considered within your written risk assessment. This should take account of the location, ground and surrounding vegetation, current and recent weather conditions, wind, supervision, the size and type of fire, suitable firefighting equipment and how the fire will be safely extinguished.
Importantly, volunteers should continue to dynamically assess conditions on the day. If conditions are particularly dry, windy or otherwise increase the risk of fire spreading, the fact that the wider restriction has been lifted shouldn’t prevent volunteers from deciding that lighting a fire isn’t appropriate on that occasion.
