Explorers Hike 3

Joining Explorer Scouts offers a fantastic opportunity for young people aged between 14 and 18 years old, to take responsibility for their Scout programme and shape it to their own ambitions and access the world of scouting.

Explorer Scouting offers young people the chance to decide what to do on a week by week basis, to plan and then carry out the events they wish to take part in with like-minded individuals who may become friends for life. Any young person is able to become an Explorer Scout upon reaching the period of 6 months leading up to their fourteenth birthday. Should they wish to continue to take part in the Scouting community they may then go onto become adult volunteers. However, they don\'t have to wait to be 18 to be a volunteer leader, as the young leader scheme allows Explorers to volunteer as a leader in a younger section of their group. More information about the young leader scheme can be found HERE!

Explorer Scouts offers a wide range of activities suited to their age, while encouraging them to make friends with the people around them. Explorers generally meet once a week and undertake a variety of active and adventurous activities.

Explorer Units in the district often collaborate and link together at some meetings, especially when doing activities to work towards top awards. Explorers have the opportunity to complete awards including:

  • Chief Scout\'s Platinum Award
  • Chief Scout\'s Diamond Award
  • King\'s Scout Award
  • Explorer Belt
  • Young Leader Award
  • DofE Bronze, Sliver & Gold

For more information on Top Awards, follow our Top Awards Facebook page HERE!

Explorer Scouts get far more international opportunities by going abroad or going to international Jamborees based in the UK. Explorers also have tailor made events planned just for them such as the annual Kick Back Camp, Gilwell24, the Fells Marathon, Winter on the Hills and many more...

If you have a young person who would like to join Explorers, click the button below and fill out your details in the form...
