DESCRIPTION:⭐ Aims of the Day\n• Feel confident using an OS map \n• Understand basic navigation techniques \n• Be able to plan and follow a simple route \n• Improve awareness of safety while walking \n• Work as a team to solve route-finding challenges \n• Build confidence travelling on foot in unfamiliar areas \nWe will cover:\n✔ Map symbols & grid references \n✔ Measuring distance & pacing \n✔ Setting & following a bearing ( where possible) \n✔ Route planning & decision making \n✔ Using features & contour lines to navigate \n✔ Dynamic risk assessment while walking \nThis will be a practical\, activity-based day with lots of learning while out on the route. \n👟 What Participants Need to Bring\n• Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing \n• Waterproof coat (and trousers if possible) \n• Sturdy walking boots or walking shoes \n• Filled water bottle \n• Packed lunch & snacks \n• Warm layers / hat & gloves (if cold) \n• Small rucksack to carry everything \n• Personal medication (e.g. inhalers) \nOptional but useful:\n• Notebook & pen \n• Compass (if you have one) \n🧭 Equipment Provided by Leaders / Organisers\n• OS maps for the area \n• Spare compasses \n• Route plans & activity sheets \n• First aid kit \n• Emergency contact & safety plan \n• Risk assessment & supervision \n• Attendance registers \n• High-visibility items if required \n🔐 Safety & Supervision\n• Activities will be fully supervised \n• Participants will walk in small groups \n• Leaders will carry emergency equipment \n• Weather-dependent adjustments may be made \n• We will follow Scout/Guiding safety guidelines where applicable \n📍 Start/Finish Location\nThe exact start and finish point will be at Hubbard’s Hills Free Car Park\, Louth. SUMMARY:Squirrels & Beavers Gulliver's Sleepover
DESCRIPTION:What to expect…\nWe are offering an event relatively easy for Volunteers\, so this sleepover is fully catered\, most activities are ran by Gulliver’s staff and no need to put up tents! Only a sleeping bag is needed. \nGulliver’s is a family-friendly theme park catered towards younger children\, ideal for Squirrels and Beavers! There are a wide range of rides\, shows and themed areas that encourage adventure and imagination. It’s a great opportunity for Squirrels and Beavers to enjoy new experiences\, build confidence\, and have fun together outside their usual meetings. \nThere are plenty of activities to look forward to on the Saturday evening\, followed by a day full of fun\, laughter and rides on the Sunday. \nThere will be plenty of opportunities for young people to work towards badges\, and get to meet other Squirrels and Beavers within the district to make memories that will last a lifetime. \nWe’re also excited to provide each young person attending with their very own Gulliver’s badge! \nTransport is not provided. The park is close to Sheffield and around an hours drive from Scunthorpe. \nWhat will happen during the event?\nSaturday: Arrive from 5pm – evening meal – activities – evening entertainment – lights out. \nSunday: Breakfast – activity – lunch – theme park rides – departure approx. 4pm. \nPricing…\nThe price for young people is £55 per Squirrel and Beaver Scout. \n1 adult per 10 young people can attend the event free of charge\, additional adults are £25.50 each. \nWhile additional adults are more than welcome\, please note that you do not need to have an additional leader in charge. DESCRIPTION:What to expect:\nFollowing the success of last year’s event\, and by request of the Explorers themselves\, the Explorer Pancake Competition returns this February! \nThis is a simple\, high-energy evening that works well as a programme night and gives Explorers the chance to mix with others from across the District\, outside of their usual weekly meetings. \nUnits will compete with three separate pancakes across three categories: \n🥞 Best Taste\n🥞 Best Decorated\n🥞 Most Sturdy Pancake – tested in a pancake-and-pan egg & spoon–style race \nIt’s competitive without being serious\, requires minimal prep from leaders\, and is designed to be fun\, inclusive and engaging for Explorer-age young people. \nIf you’re looking for something different to drop into your programme this term- and something your Explorers have already asked to repeat- this is a great opportunity to bring your Unit along. \nEach unit can bring as many teams of up to 4 Explorers as required. \nWhen and where will the event take place?\nMonday 9th February 2026\, 6.30pm – 8.30pm. \nPrimrose Hill Campsite\, near the St Vincent Hut. \nWhat will my unit need to bring?\nThe District will provide:\n🥞 All basic pancake ingredients \n🥞 Use of the campsite and space to cook \nExplorer Units will need to bring:\n🥞 Their own pans and cooking equipment \n🥞  A method of cooking (e.g. gas burner or open fire setup) \n🥞 Any additional toppings\, fillings or decorations they’d like to use for their pancakes \n🥞  A leader who will take responsibility for their unit \nHow much will the event cost\, and when would we need to confirm numbers and pay?\nThe price is £5 per Team of 4 Explorers. \nExplorer Team Leaders/Members are required to attend with their unit\, and should take full responsibility for medical information and emergency contact details for this event. \nFinal numbers and full payment is required by Sunday 1st February.\nPayment should be made to the following account: Lloyds Business Account\, North Lincolnshire District Scout Council\, Sort Code: 30-99-50\, Account Number: 87328468 \nBookings Link:\nTo book your Explorer Unit onto this event\, CLICK HERE \n\nSummary: We’re excited to announce the District Pancake Explorer Competition!
